A day in the Sacramento Valley

Out and about…

I ventured out and about today with a couple buddies. Found ourselves down the Sierra crest flying over most of the ski areas and then on to the desert where we landed at “high boy ridge”, shop “the gold mine” , “3 Shot gun shells” and a few others. It was another stellar day for flying! No wind and t shirt weather. Pretty crazy for the middle of December. Here are some photos…

A good day always ends with a Boner…

Went out today on a mission to not fly more than a mile or two without finding a cool place to land. That found me in Susanville 3 hours later, information pills about 50 miles north of Truckee. Ended up seeing my buddy Bruce there and a few of his friends at the airport. Susanville has a great little dirt strip and one could spend the day landing at various spots surrounding the area. Not really certain how many landings I made today but guessing it was at least 15 or 20. One lake bed gave me 7 touch and goes without ever changing direction. How many birds can you count in the photo here…I am guessing around 5000 or so at least. Thinking they are all cranes. In closing here as we all know, sales the best part of the day is always coming home and today was exceptionally good as it ended with a boner…

A quick lake lap around Tahoe and my hollywood friends

It was such a beautiful day a quick trip around the lake was in order. Dropped into SLT airport and then continued on. No real landings today aside from the 18 right at KSLT and 01 left at KTRK.  These pictures make Tahoe look as though its July but honestly, view it is December 13th. Can you guess where the white ribbon photo is taken here? Winner gets a prize…

On another note, page I am not much into TV but I do like the show Flying Wild on Discovery. Just found out today that my friend is the on site location producer and a couple of my friends where just on the show climbing in the Brooks range of Alaska. Part 2 of the show will play this friday night on Discovery. Check it out…

A quick flight on the North Circuit with Splashpilot and Lowrider

Both Splashpilot and Lowrider arrived this morning looking to go fly. Rich has been flying his tanker all summer fighting fires and is now done with work for the season. I made a quick trip to Juneau last week for a quick heli trip and have not really been flying a ton myself. Reservoirs are lowering the water levels by the day and landings are everywhere. If only we had some snow to put the skis on.  Today was fun but we summarized it as cold and cloudy with some winds to make it almost miserable. We ended up only landing at 4 different spots and look to get some more as the low pressure passes overhead to make for good flying conditions toward weeks end. Here are a couple photos from today and my Juneau trip.

Good Flying Weather

The weather today felt like August! T shirts and sun glasses were the call. It certainly did not feel like the end of November at all. Went out today with my buddy Chris and met up with my new friend Bruce and his 1954 170 Heritage Classic winner at both Oshkosh and Reno. These photos do not do this beautiful aircraft justice. We landed at a couple of our spots on the north circuit and then found ourselves needing a little water work to get into a few spots around the reservoirs. Winds are up today and they are predicting 110 mph over the crest tonight. Better baton down the hatches as its going to blow! Anyhow, page I will be updating this as we go here. Hoping for snow snow we can put the skis on soon!

Just home from Antarctica

Well after a two week hiatus I am back. What a great trip to the bottom of the world. Its looking like its going to be time to put the skis on the plane soon.
