The transformation…

All sorts of things happening…

First off, the wings, vertical and horizontal fins along with the BW’s have all been removed. We then drove the plane to the doctor to have the engine and firewall removed. The engine is going to Steve Knopp at PPonk to see about the Super Eagle conversion. I may end up with the O550 that PPONK is getting ready to STC but that is still TBD. As we progress here I will update regualry with the transformation. Long story short, I am hoping for either the O550 or the O520 staying away from the fuel injection for many reasons (hot starts, high elevation flying and landing, etc.). I like carburetors! I am also upgrading to the Sportsman STOL kit. I love the Horton but its time for the Sportsman. I am also adding the ART Wing X giving me another 400lbs of useful load and even great STOL performance. Anyhow, I will leave you with that for now…Stay tuned

Spring has sprung…just a few flying pics today

Spring is here and summer is just around the corner. Went out to a few of our fun spots and found mud on many of our strips still. With the warm temps things should be improving daily. I will get back on here posting daily so stay tuned. Currently in the midst of getting a new engine, medications prop and a few other things…the last pic here should explain a lot..:( Needless to say I spend a lot of time practicing “tail up” taxing. At slower speeds this maneuver becomes more difficult. Anyway, while taxing around cones, circles and various other objects I had a good gust of wind blow up my tail feathers. Long story short, the plane went up on her nose and came to a rest…Thankfully the Feds are calling it an “occurrence” and not an incident or accident thankfully!

A couple cool pics…

1 really bad ass Beaver and a cool time-lapse…

Making movies….1 week left in AK

With only 1 week left in our heli ski season here in Alaska, look you could say I am pretty fired up to get back to flying my airplane. I mean helicopters are cool and all but man I need my big tires back! Currently in the midst of filming for our Warren Miller segment. Met a new friend here in Cordova with a beautiful 185. Sought him out and asked him if he would like to do some flying for our WM film and the rest is history. Long story short here, help US Olympic ski team member Travis Ganong arriving in Cordova. It was obviously staged for the film but anytime an airplane with big tires is involved your going to have fun!

A quick trip around Lake Hood

Just some photos I took a few weeks back while in Anchorage. One of my favorite things to do is look at airplanes and here you can find just about every type. Here Spenard Lake and Lake Hood. This is the largest bush plane base in the world!

Some short flying videos and a few heli ski shots

Alaska Heli Ski Season

Well I am back in AK now for our heli ski season. You can follow our season along here: http://www.alaskaheliski.com/media/points-north-on-facebook/

We currently have more snow than we have seen in our 15  year history here in Cordova. Skiing and riding has been all time, symptoms buy more about not to mention the flying. The helicopter is a superb tool to access these big peaks. I am always baffled by how they can land on a dime and put you in places that your mind cannot even comprehend. Here are a few photos from the season so far. I will try to be more active here for the next 10 weeks.
