Some damage to my horizontal stab

Some of you have asked about the damage to my stab this past week. Well this should give you a better idea as to what happened. I have had damage from rocks in the past on the stab but nothing like this. While doing some take offs and landings on the in field (between the pavement and taxi ways) at Nervino I took a piece of rock / concrete on the leading edge. I had made several landings and take offs that morning on the short 330′ section (I land there almost daily) and the 660′ section. On my last “attempted” take off I rolled into the very long (over 1500′) section to depart. As I was rolling and gaining speed I heard a very loud bang. Having a lot of field to go I immediately throttled back and slowed down to taxi speed and pulled off and onto the taxiway at the far end of the airport. I shut the aircraft down and stepped out only to notice that my horizontal wasn’t what it should look like…:(  I think the photo will explain that one. As said above, I have had rock damage in the past but then there is rock damage. This was almost unreal. Anyhow, thought I would share. The reports have been filed and the photos will speak for themselves. Thankfully I had a couple witness flying in their own planes to see all of this go down.  My new stab and the other needed parts are in route from Skywagon city. Hopefully I will be back in the air in the next two weeks or so. Trying hard to make Johnson Creek and the fly in. Fingers crossed…

Now I am thinking about getting some mud flaps…not that it would have helped me but…

AVWeb hat arrives!

After a long 7 month wait, viagra information pills my hat finally arrived today! If your not familiar with AVweb check it out. You win a hat when your photo is selected as their “Picture of week”. I have submitted a lot of photos and finally they picked one last summer. I cannot even remember what the photo was now. I think it was a shot of my airplane surrounded by a lot of large tires that had been dropped off in the middle of nowhere.

Her backside…and a new spot or two

I sure lover her backside…all 41 feet of her!

By the tittle I bet you were thinking about something else…Went out to the Reservoir today and found a couple new spots for the North circuit…Water is low making for perfect landing areas. This one below is Stampede SW

Here is a new one…Short and sweet, one way only. Its about 500′ I figure. Pretty easy to get in and out. I had 28g of fuel on board here and solo so my total weight with me and fuel was 2107lbs. Touchdown were I put the stick (just past the big rock) slight right turn and shut her down. Maybe used up 350′ on this one. NO GO AROUNDS HERE!!

Posing for a photo…she sure is pretty but I am biased of course

Off topic…I came back to the airport and it was hot! Found a new way to gain life on my tires…or maybe lose some life? I dont think this stuff eats tires but then again, what do I know? Have you every had this stuff on your tires?

Another form of flight

Most will find this completely absurd but jumping out of an aircraft is one of my favorite things to do. I love it when our heli pilots ask “So how high do you guys want to go?” …its generally followed by a lot of laughter….

4000′ to go…checking my altimeter

Here is a drop from 9000′ over our lodge and the Chugach Mountains. This shot made a Warren Miller film

Going backwards always adds some entertainment

The view from the gound

Sometimes perspective is everything

Opening

And of course, the landing…Ski’s bring another dimension as you don’t need to jump from anything. Just start gliding downhill…

All just another form of flight…:)

Off topic…Fitness is a big part of my life

Just thought I would put up something a bit different. How many of you really spend time on yourself and your fitness? For my lifestyle and job that allows me to fly almost everyday, order it is essential that I keep myself in the best shape I can be in. For me, Crossfit has provided me with just that.  With just over a year into Crossfit now I am really starting to see and feel the results. I have lost over 40lbs in the past year and improved my strength by 10 folds. Diet of course has played a lot into this but all in all I am feeling like my old self when I played serious hockey. Anyone else feel the need for a life style change? Go join a Crossfit gym…trust me…It will change your life.

Front Squat = 265lbs

Getting screamed at by the others as I am trying to break 1:25 rowing the 500m…I almost threw up after this photo was taken…And I broke the 1:25 mark

Sometime getting creative is as much fun as going to the gym…Tires and rims = 105lbs…On this day we did 10 rounds of 10 reps = just over 10,000lbs over head. Here is an example of the Sumo Deadlift. This was back in January.

Sumo Deadlift = 445lbs
