She is coming along…

Well here we go with another update…I know I keep saying we are close and I keep telling myself that…

As of today I feel like I am still a little bit out. Guessing at least a week… #-o :( With all of the “little” things that need attention given how much we have done to her we are now just addressing the loose ends. Crazy but true…there is always something.

I will try to go through the items here in photos…

For starters…the new rubber for the baffling arrived. We pulled the old rubber out today and started to add the new.

Needing to replace this (we have the new one in hand) as a bolt hole was cracked during removal :x (easy fix) Will also need to vaccum out the inside of this tank…
Image

I ended up replacing all of these as they were cracked. You will see why they are not screwed back in yet…
Image

We need to fit the control cables back into the wings…
Image

Any idea how long the new wings are with the Wing X? Try 39.8 feet!
Image

Ever curious how much the Sportsman adds to a stock Cessna wing…this pic give you a good idea…over 3 inches
Image

Battery is and has been firewall forward…this may end up changing depending on the actual weight of the nose
Image

Before the new baffling but thought this was a great shot of my oil cooler…it has been overhauled and she looks brand new!
Image

Looking up at the new engine…she sure is pretty
Image

This is also an easy fix but it needs attention
Image

New interior flooring from SCS arrived and fit like a glove
Image

Baby BW and cables that need to go on…easy….also my cowling sitting there. It went to a machine shop and came out great!
Image

Not certain I like how close the alt sits to the firewall. Will need to address this…Ideas? We have some as well… I can fit 2 business cards behind it now… :x :(
Image

Right wing flap needs to go on…Easy…you can also see my boot covers (stainless steel behind the rubber on the leading edge) for the horizontal here and my GoPro mount (its a surfboard mount)
Image

So thats about that for now…Its frustrating as I type all this and think…wow I have a lot to do still but really its not that much as I think those of you that know will agree. Its all just little stuff. Of course we still have all the probes and such along with the exhaust and prop details but we are thinking about a good solid week ahead and she should be ready to fire up. Almost 6000 views here…I am blown away. I will keep you posted as the work progresses… :?

I sure dont like looking at her with those little tires…I dont think she likes they way they feel either…

Getting very close to completion

The plane is getting very close. Thinking I will be back in the air in the next week. Wings are done, new engine is going in.  Will be testing our two new props very soon. Interesting that an MT prop comes in a hard wood box and the big Mac 410 comes in a cardboard box.

Here are some photos of the new Wing X STOL kit giving the plane an additional 12.5 square feet of surface now making the overall wing length near 40 feet! These combined with the new engine the bird is going to leap off the ground. It was easy to get off the ground in 300′ or less here at 5900′ as she was. Now with the Wing X, figures show a 25-30 percent increase in lift off. That combined with the new higher horse power we are thinking 150′ or less…Lets just see…

My plane is coming along

Really just waiting for Pponk to send me my new engine! We have the new firewall and engine mount on along with the new Sportsman and Wing X installed. Betting we will be flying in the next 2 weeks. Anxious to say the least.

P51 Mustang!!!

Today was a day to remember! My pops and I had the opportunity to fly in the back seat of a P51 Mustang. 300mph with high turns, viagra 100mg malady rolls and all the excitement to go with it. What a day and a memory to last a life time. I wonder what one of these would look like with Bushwheels!!!
